Suede Dog Man Star on 180g Import 2LP + Download

Demon Records will be reissuing Suede’s trail blazing first five albums Suede (1993), Dog Man Star (1994), Coming Up(1996), Head Music (1999) and A New Morning (2002) along with the band’s 1997 B-sides compilation Sci-Fi Lullabieson 180g vinyl with accompanying download codes.

Suede bounded onto the British music scene in 1993 with their No. 1 self-titled album which became the fastest-selling debut in British history, kick-starting the Britpop revolution and going on to become a Mercury Music Prize winner. Success continued throughout the ’90s with further No. 1 albums like Coming Up and Head Music and top 10’s Dog Man Star andSci-Fi Lullabies.

Fronted by the charismatic Brett Anderson and equally influenced by both the Smiths and David Bowie, top 10 singles like “Animal Nitrate,” “Stay Together,” “Trash,” “Beautiful Ones,” “Saturday Night,” “Lazy,” “Filmstar” and “Electricity” epitomized the vibrancy, edge and excitement of the band and ensured an impressive chart presence across a decade before going on indefinite hiatus in 2003 until reforming in 2010 and issuing acclaimed sixth album Bloodsports in 2013.

Often regarded as their masterpiece, Suede’s seductive second album Dog Man Star finds the band distancing themselves from Britpop and commercial expectations with darker and more ambitious material brought on by Anderson’s growing drug use and band turmoil which boiled over with the departure of guitarist Bernard Butler during the mixing of the record. Dog Man Star’s organized chaos works to the band’s benefit on all fronts with Anderson saying, “If I could choose to be remembered for just one musical document it would be this.”
